Camel racing is a cherished cultural tradition that represents heritage, community, and national pride. Today, innovation is helping this sport thrive by combining traditional practices with modern science and technology.
A new team member, Grace, a PhD student from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, has joined efforts to explore camel race nutrition. Her research will include advanced tools such as robotics, adding a modern dimension to understanding how nutrition affects performance.
Currently, a dedicated team is training 120 camels of various ages at a research farm and managing a total of 1,200 camels at a breeding facility. Using state-of-the-art breeding programs, cloning techniques, and AI-based monitoring, the team works to enhance endurance, speed, and overall performance while preserving superior genetic traits.
This approach ensures that camels are healthier, better trained, and more competitive. By blending traditional knowledge with technology, these efforts are helping the sport evolve sustainably while maintaining its cultural significance. The integration of nutrition, robotics, and genetic research provides valuable insights into camel behavior and stress management, driving scientific understanding and improving racing outcomes.
