  • REMARKS:This plant has two distinct types of fruits: one set above ground and one two sets below ground. The former are small and have a tuft of hair that aids seed dispersal for colonization of new habitats. The latter are heavy and large and recolonize the spot where the mother plant was.


DESCRIPTION:

Annual, prostrate without stem, basal rosette. Leaves lance-shaped with pointed tip, smooth edges, sometimes with few fine teeth. Flowerheads tightly clustered like disc in center, 1.2 cm across, green to brownish, softly spiny due to bract. Fruit 0.2 cm, with hair tuft 0.6 cm. Flowering from February to April.
